If you’re already a notary or if you just received that designation, you’ll need to have your ‘tools of the trade.’ That means that it’s important for you to know what you’re going to need and which of the different options is best for you.
There are national associations that you can join to help add to your credentials, but the most important thing that you’ll want to address will be the actual stamp and seal that you use to notarize documents. Some states require both, and some states only require a stamp, so check with your local requirements before you make a purchase.
In addition, it’s important that you pick the right kind of stamp. Some require an ink pad, and others come with ink already in them. These pre-inked stamps are more convenient but they can sometimes be difficult to use and they do cost more. No matter which one you choose, though, make sure that you use it with care, treat it carefully, and don’t leave it lying around where someone could use it without your permission. Keeping a logbook is also recommended, but most states don’t require it.

Even if you are a licensed or certified notary, your work can still be rejected if you do not perform your duties properly, and one of the most important duties that you have is using your notary seal embosser and stamp correctly.
The stamp should be clear, crisp, and easy to read. If you leave the stamp on the paper too long there will be too much ink on it and it will become thick and blurry. This is not acceptable and can cause a problem with the document. You should stamp documents only on a firm, flat surface and keep the stamp clean so that it will produce a good, clear image each and every time. You can clean your stamp with tape, which will pull off dust, dirt, and debris that you’ll want to get rid of. The stamp will retain its usefulness for a longer period of time that way.
A notary seal embosser and stamp should also be protected when not in use. These things can be heat sensitive and can become damaged from rough handling, too. If you want to keep them looking good you’ll need to treat them with care and use them properly.

A true and exact copy is exactly that – one that has not been changed or tampered with in any way. The reason for this wording is that a true copy could be a copy that was made of a document and then had things changed on it. If it’s a true and exact copy, it means that it is a copy of the original document and has not been altered in any way. If you got out the original document and looked at it it wouldn’t look any different, at all, from the copy.
When you stamp something with the true and exact copy stamp it means that you are personally certifying that the copy is identical in every way to the original and that it has not been tampered with or changed. That sounds like no big deal, but it could matter a lot, especially in the areas of dollar amounts, birthdates, and other things that are vital to the signing and enforcement of specific documents.
The true and exact stamp is very important, so be sure that the copy you stamp with it really meets that criteria.

If you want to become a notary there are a few things that you must do, but it is not that difficult. The first requirement is that you have to be eighteen. If you are younger, you haven’t reached the age of majority yet and you can’t sign things that are legally binding. With that being the case, you can’t witness things for other people, either.
You also have to be a legal resident of the state that you want to be a notary in, because you can’t notarize things in a state that you don’t live in. There are courses that you have to take, and most of the information that you will learn in them is common sense, but it’s important, so you’ll want to pay attention.
You’ll also learn about the laws for your state, what you can and cannot do as a notary public, and how to reduce the chances of legal action being taken against you for misconduct.
Once you’ve taken the course you can take a written exam. You also have to pass a background check to make sure that you don’t have felony convictions or other problems on your record.

It’s very important to make sure that you don’t do work and then have to figure out how to get paid for it. This is especially true if you’re doing work where the documents have to be mailed or if you’re interested in things like working with a business. Some of them have set times that they pay invoices. If you’re not comfortable with that, you can just as easily not work with them and only accept cash, for example.
There are a lot of notaries out there who accept cash only, and that’s often because they don’t want to take the chance of bounced checks and other kinds of problems. There are too many people who don’t care enough about other people and who aren’t that interested in helping their fellow man. If they can get something for nothing they will, so it’s better to avoid them and make sure that you get payment up front from anyone that you’re concerned about.
Taking cash as your only form of payment is one of the best ways to ensure that you know how payment will be made and you won’t be cheated by anyone.
